The Center for Disaster Studies and Prevention – PREDES is a non-profit Non-Governmental Organization, established in 1983 with the goal of contributing to reducing vulnerability and disaster risk in the country. PREDES aims to promote a comprehensive approach to disaster risk management, supporting public policies and community actions that increase resilience and reduce the impact of adverse events on the most vulnerable populations.
PREDES seeks to generate knowledge and foster an environmental and prevention culture, promoting disaster risk management at both national and international levels as an inherent part of sustainable development, involving all social actors: local governments, communities, the private sector, and international organizations. Furthermore, it works on capacity building and institutional strengthening to ensure that all stakeholders are prepared to prevent and respond to disasters, fostering an approach based on climate change adaptation and safe urban planning.
In its previous design, PREDES featured a character named Predecito, who served as an informational support to explain topics in a friendly and accessible manner for everyone. However, in its new redesign, they decided to include an additional character to reinforce the message of inclusion within the organization.
This new character is called Predecita, and like Predecito, she has a unique personality and charisma that makes her representative of the brand. As the senior illustrator in charge of this project, I focused on developing these characters in a detailed way, paying close attention to each element to ensure they had a unique appearance consistent with PREDES' visual identity. This detailed approach allowed us to create a complete visual ecosystem that represents PREDES in an effective, appealing way, aligned with the organization's values, such as social inclusion, gender equality, and disaster prevention education. This redesign helps to strengthen PREDES' branding and makes the content more engaging and understandable for a broader audience, achieving a visual and communicational impact that contributes to its mission of reducing risks and increasing community resilience.
